Germany - The Nazis Won't Die

On the day that Britain celebrates VE day, the German ambassador to Britain says "British people are still obsessed with Nazism, and ignorant about Germany" and "They are enchanted by this Nazi dimension," he said yesterday."

The ambassador further stated, "We have to make a distinction between clichèd stereotypes that are outright funny - like in Dad's Army or Fawlty Towers - and something that goes a little deeper." The humour stops when I hear that German children are regularly beaten up and abused by British youngsters who don't know what Germany's about."

The ambassador totally ignores the rise in anti-Semitism in Germany with a subsequent rise in the attacks on Jews. This rise is fueled by, as the ambassador aptly put it, "something that goes a little deeper".

That "something" is evident at the German Open tennis tournament.

BERLIN, May 7 (Reuters) - A photograph of Nazi Hermann Goering in the programme of the German Open tennis tournament and reference to the host club's "golden times" after its Jewish members fled in the thirties has caused outrage.

And

In a section of the programme on the club's rich heritage, Luftwaffe (air force) chief Goering is pictured sitting on the club's honorary tribune, with uniformed Nazi officers behind him.

The text describes how Jewish members of the club fled Hitler and continues: "With its membership reduced by half in this way, the club, previously known as a 'Jewish club', opened itself to new members."

"In sporting terms this change brought no interruption for the club and top German tennis. On the contrary, golden times ensued."

Look in the mirror, Mr. Ambassador, how's that Nazi uniform looking.
